Tatkal Reservation

Tatkal scheme is a ticket booking program by the Indian Railways. This scheme enhances the passengers to book tickets immediately for their short notice journeys. One can book tickets under the tatkal scheme in both online and offline. In general, tatkal tickets cost a bit more than normal tickets. You should book the tickets only in a given time period by the IRCTC i.e, a day before the date of your journey from 10 am for AC coach tickets reservation and 11 am for Non-AC coach tickets reservation.

Tatkal Reservation Online

Indian Railways allotted 30% of seats under reservation category. In which, 7% to 10% of seats are allotted under the tatkal scheme. you can avail of tickets both online and offline. Here is the complete reservation process online in detail.
  • Go to the 'icrtc.co.in" website and sign up to get ahead in the reservation process.
  • It allows only four passengers to book the tickets per PNR.
  • You are allowed to book a ticket only in the given time period that is after 10 am for AC coaches and 11 am for Non-AC coaches a day before the date of your journey.
  • Next, enter the date of your journey. 
  • Then, choose your starting and destination points.
  • Click on submit and then, choose "quota" as tatkal.
  • And then, tap on the "book now."
  • Enter all your details carefully without any mistake including passenger name, age, gender, seat preference, etc.
  • After that, tick in the checkbox "Book only if confirm berths and allotted." 
  • Finally, enter the captcha and select the fastest mode of payment to avail of tickets.

Tatkal Reservation Timings

IRCTC allotted only a specific time to book the tickets under the tatkal scheme. The timings for reserving the berth is different for a different class of trains.
  • For AC classes including AC 3 Tier, AC 2 Tier, AC Chair Car class of trains: 10 am
  • For Non-AC classes including Reserved Second Sitting, Sleeper class of trains; 11 am

Tatkal Reservation Rules

According to Indian Railways, there are certain rules and regulations for tatkal ticket bookings as follows:
  • Book the tickets a day before the date of your journey that starts at 10 am for AC classes and 11 am for Non-AC.
  • IRCTC allows its users to book the tickets only on irctc.co.in website.
  • The tatkal tickets are a bit more expensive than the normal tickets as these tickets are issued for the total distance instead of end-to-end.
  • You are not allowed to cancel the confirmed train ticket. Hence, there would be no refund if you miss or don't take the train.
  • No duplicate Tatkal tickets are issued. The tatkal tickets are given only when proper proofs are produced including voter ID, PAN Card, etc.
  • 4 passengers per PNR only allowed to book.
  • The facility to change your details is not permitted twice.

To complete your registration offline, you must fill the form including your name, phone number, gender, preference seats, age, etc at the counter of the railway station.
