Tatkal Charges

In general, tatkal tickets are a bit more expensive than normal tickets due to its high demand for immediate ticket bookings at last-minute journeys. No concessions or any other discounts are not available for tatkal booking tickets. Even senior citizens have to pay full fares to avail of this tatkal ticket. The tatkal charges depend on the number of people boarding from the particular station and demand for the ticket. Usually, the fare will be more for AC coaches when compared to the Non-AC coaches. And when it comes to the availability of the seats, Ac coaches consist of less number of seats when compared to Non-AC coaches.

Tatkal Charges for 3 AC

The tatkal charges for AC coaches will be more than Non-AC coaches. Basically, the charges have been fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 10% for the second class and for other classes, fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 30% of basic fare. The tatkal charges for the AC coach start from Rs.125 and rise up to a maximum of Rs.225. You cannot avail of first AC coach tickets a day before your date of journey as they are not included in the scheme of tatkal bookings. Below-mentioned is the minimum and maximum fares under the tatkal scheme as per the latest Indian Railway Budget for AC coach.

  • The minimum tatkal charges for AC Chair Car, AC 3 Tier, AC 2 Tier are Rs.125, Rs.300, Rs.400 respectively.
  • The maximum tatkal charges for AC Chair Car, AC 3 Tier, AC 2 Tier are Rs.225, Rs.400, Rs.500 respectively.

Tatkal Charges for Sleeper

The sleeper coach charges are considerably less when compared to AC coaches. Tatkal tickets will be isued for actual-distance rather than end-to-end. This is also one of the reasons for Tatkal tickets' expensive fares than the general bookings. You should avail of the tatkal tickets a day before the date of your journey. However, the charges would be almost the same regardless of the demand for the tickets. Below-mentioned is the minimum and maximum fares under the tatkal scheme as per the latest Indian Railway Budget for Sleeper and Reserve Second Sitting coaches.
  • The minimum tatkal charges for the Sleeper and Reserve Second Sitting coaches are Rs.100 and Rs.10 respectively.
  • The maximum tatkal charges for Sleeper and Reserve Second Sitting coaches are Rs.200 and Rs.15 respectively.
Note: The tatkal facility is also available for Executive class with minimum and maximum charges of Rs.400 and Rs.500 respectively.

Tatkal Booking Charges

The tatkal charges for a second sitting coach are very less when compared to all other coaches and high for Executive class of train. The below-given charges are additional tatkal reservation charges of all the classes.
  • The minimum tatkal charges of the Second Sitting, Sleeper,  3 AC, 2 AC, AC Chair Car are Rs.10, Rs.100, Rs.300, Rs.400, Rs.125 respectively.
  • The maximum tatkal charges of the Second Sitting, Sleeper,  3 AC, 2 AC, AC Chair Car are Rs.15, Rs.200, Rs.400, Rs.500, Rs.225 respectively.

What is Premium Tatkal?

Indian Railway Catering and Transportation Corporation has introduced a new scheme under the tatkal scheme, called Premium Tatkal in 2014. The fares of premium tatkal are dynamic for the confirmed tickets. Usually, the ticket fares under premium tatkal would be twice the general tatkal tickets. There are almost no differences between the normal tatkal scheme and the premium tatkal scheme including booking timings, rules & regulations, etc except the fares of the tickets. One can avail of the tickets under premium tatkal even after the few hours of opening of the reservation process. But the tickets under normal tatkal scheme get exhausted within a few minutes.
