Difference Between Normal and Tatkal Passport

The word tatkal is nothing but immediate.  The normal passport and tatkal passport are the same. But as the name tatkal suggests, the tatkal processing passport would be issued immediately while it takes a lot of time to issue the normal passport after the police verification. The only difference between these two processes is their fares. You have to pay an extra amount for tatkal processing passports. Usually, the fare of the normal and tatkal passports would be Rs.1500 and Rs.2500. Sometimes, it would be even more in metropolitan cities. 

Difference Between Premium Tatkal and Normal Tatkal

Indian Railways has introduced two kinds of tatkal schemes. Out of which, one has introduced in 1997 that is a normal tatkal scheme and the other in 2014, called premium tatkal. Almost these two schemes are similar in its many features including reservation timings of the tickets, terms & conditions, privacy policy, cancellation, refund, etc. Also, the fares of both the tickets are dynamic which depends upon the demand and number of people traveling from a particular station. The only difference between both the tickets is the cost of the tickets. The premium tatkal tickets are usually a bit costlier than the normal tatkal tickets.

Can Tatkal Tickets be Cancelled?

Tatkal tickets are mostly booked for last-minute journeys or short-notice journeys. Once you avail of the confirmed tatkal ticket you get no refund if you cancel the ticket. However, there are chances of getting a refund from the Indian Railways if you cancel out the ticket only under the below-given circumstances. If the train is diverted to any other route due to any other reasons and if you are not agreed with it. If your boarding station or destination or even both of them is not covered, you get a full refund. If you are not accommodated in your actual class or lower class then you can cancel the ticket and you get a full refund. Also, if your ticket is not confirmed then automatically your ticket would be canceled and you get a complete refund within a week. You are also allowed to cancel your waitlist or CKWL ticket up to 30 minutes before the departure of the train.

What is Tatkal Ticket?

The tatkal scheme has established by the Indian Railways in 1997 to avail of the train ticket at a short-notice. The demand for tickets from the past many years has been increasing incredibly day by day. People book the tickets under the tatkal scheme for their last-minute journeys. The fares of the tatkal ticket are dynamic and depend on the demand and frequency of the passengers traveling from a particular station. What is Premium Tatkal?

Indian Railway Catering and Transportation Corporation has introduced a new scheme under the tatkal scheme, called Premium Tatkal in 2014. The fares of premium tatkal are dynamic for the confirmed tickets. Usually, the ticket fares under premium tatkal would be twice the general tatkal tickets. There are almost no differences between the normal tatkal scheme and the premium tatkal scheme including booking timings, rules & regulations, etc except the fares of the tickets. One can avail of the tickets under premium tatkal even after the few hours of opening of the reservation process. But the tickets under normal tatkal scheme get exhausted within a few minutes.
