Premium Tatkal Means

This is a new quota launched by the Indian Railways. These premium tatkal fares are a bit more expensive than the general quota. The timing patterns are similar to that of a normal tatkal quota.
Timings: For all AC coaches reservation process opens from 10 am and for all Non-AC coaches it starts from 11 am, a day before the date of your journey.
The major advantage of the premium tatkal bookings are, users find tickets even after a few hours whereas the general tickets get exhausted within a few minutes. There are many similarities between the general tatkal quota and premium tatkal quota but the only thing that differs is that you don't get a waitlisted ticket under premium tatkal quota.

Premium Tatkal Rules

The rules of both premium tatkal and general tatkal bookings are almost the same. Here are the few rules under the premium tatkal scheme.
  • The bookings are allowed from a day before the date of your journey.
  • Everyone has to pay full fares including children, senior citizens, etc.
  • No refund is provided if anyone cancels out the ticket.
  • Only E-Tickets are available under the premium tatkal scheme.
  • One has to produce strong proof of identities such as Voter-ID, PAN, or any other government-issued cards to avail of the ticket under this quota.

Premium Tatkal Fares

The fares of premium tatkal are usually double than that of general tatkal fares. These dynamically increased charges are only for the confirmed passengers as there will be no waitlist category. Here you don't find any waiting list or CKWL categories. If all the seats get reserved then your booking process gets canceled out soon. The fare of premium tatkal depends upon the basic fare and additional tatkal charges which may vary from 10% to 30% with an upper limit depending upon the class of travel.

Premium Tatkal Charges

As mentioned earlier, the premium tatkal charges are comparatively higher than general tatkal charges. Usually, the charges of premium tatkal are affected by only two factors. They are as follows-
  1. The base fare of the train.
  2. Additional premium tatkal charges(Basically depends upon the various constituent factors including reservation charges, superfast charges, GST, dynamic charges, etc).

Can Tatkal Tickets be Cancelled?

Tatkal tickets are mostly booked for last-minute journeys or short-notice journeys. Once you avail of the confirmed tatkal ticket you get no refund if you cancel the ticket. However, there are chances of getting a refund from the Indian Railways if you cancel out the ticket only under the below-given circumstances. If the train is diverted to any other route due to any other reasons and if you are not agreed with it. If your boarding station or destination or even both of them is not covered, you get a full refund. If you are not accommodated in your actual class or lower class then you can cancel the ticket and you get a full refund. Also, if your ticket is not confirmed then automatically your ticket would be canceled and you get a complete refund within a week.
